Speed pedelec or 25 km/h e-bike: how to choose?
Five years after we started selling speed pedelecs, we're seeing an unexpected acceleration. Here's what we've learned on the ground.

A speed pedelec assists you up to 45 km/h and eats up long journeys. But it isn’t for everyone — here’s how to decide, and why Stromer has become a benchmark.
E-bike or speed pedelec?
It all comes down to the assistance speed — and to what the law requires in return.
- Town & short trips
- Much cheaper
- No registration, no compulsory helmet
- Journeys of 15 to 30 km
- Saves you time
- Registration + insurance + helmet
Your distance decides
Test your journey
“The right question isn’t power — it’s your distance.”
What the law requires
A speed pedelec is treated as a moped: registration, insurance and helmet are compulsory, and access to some cycle lanes is restricted. We’ll explain everything in the shop.
Why Stromer?
A Swiss brand specialising in high-end speed pedelecs: careful build quality, a powerful and quiet motor built into the rear hub, OMNI connectivity (tracking, anti-theft, diagnostics), and a range running from the ST1 (from ~4 500 €) to the ST7 (~13 000 €).
